PROBLEMS AND SOLUTION
Pain during mastication
Pain during mastication indicates impairment of the periodontal membrane. The use of periapical radiographs at different horizontal angles is helpful for differential diagnosis, but this method is not always effective. In other words, visual proximity between the roots of the teeth and the orthodontic implant in periapical radiography does not always indicate actual contact between the two structures. Above all, a standardized procedure can give confidence that the root is not injured. The patient should be informed that the situation is not exceptional. Even if injured, the injury is reversible. The orthodontist should observe the healing state and may prescribe an analgesic. In most cases, the impairment localized in the periodontal membrane or injuries limited to the root are reversible.
