ORTHOLUTION

Next Generation of Orthodontic mini-implant

Post-operative care

Post-operative instructions should be noted to patients and parents of patients once again after the operation, and information on medication should be given if necessary. In general, the prescribing of systemic antibiotics is not necessary.
Usually, periodontal packing is not necessary, but it is possible to perform periodontal packing in order to reduce foreign body sensation, to aid in favorable mucosal healing, and to ensure the sedative effect from the drugs in the pack. At removal, the periodontal pack should be removed completely. Because the size of a mini-implant is small, the possibility that a remnant of the pack will remain is relatively high, particularly in the mucosa. Even a small remnant at the subgingiva is likely to cause an abscess.
The day after the procedure, follow-up and dressing with Betadine may be helpful. At this appointment, primary stability should be confirmed. If there is mobility, this should be considered a procedural failure. Treatment for this will be described in detail.

  • As seen with other orthodontic appliances, initial mouth soreness is likely. Foreign body sensation can be reduced by using dressing or wax.
  • Education for oral hygiene maintenance is important. Brushing around implants is necessary; the single turf brush, oral irrigator, and Rota-dent can be used for brushing. A sonic brush, however, may not be appropriate.
  • Any kind of irritations may cause implant loosening. It should never been done to touch an implant with a finger or with the tongue.
